Spotted at VV today on a rather grubby child size bucket hat priced at $2.99:
Not that I have any interest in spending any time in the production area at that store, but it’s stuff like this that makes me wonder who is doing the pricing there. Is it someone who’s incredibly lazy and didn’t notice? Someone who is really funny? Seriously, I stared at this for a minute and considered spending the money just for the stupid pin.
OH! And while I’m probably the last person in the world to figure it out, but Bike Pirates on Bloor, near Lansdowne, is the COOLEST place to fix your bike ever, like, EVAR. I went yesterday thinking I’d happily pay someone with greasy hands to put new inter tubes in my bike wheels but they were like NO! We will show you how and walk you through it but you have to do it all yourself! And I DID! And I learned about how much air to put in my tires and why that matters! AND on Sunday it’s women and trans people only and that was nice too.
Man. Nothing cooler than learning new stuff, amirite?

nice! I love bike shops that genuinely want to help you learn how to work on and maintain your bike :D
You know, as dopey as it sounds, it was totally empowering. And made me very jealous of the bike women there, I’d love to know how to fix useful things like bikes and help out others.
Neat! This past weekend, a semi-acquaintance was encouraging me to attend a local Earn-A-Bike’s ladies night, and I’ve been seriously considering it. If you volunteer there a certain number of hours, they hook you up with a free bike. I don’t know how to ride a bike (oh, childhood…) but I figure they can help me out with that much-needed skill also.
What a wonderful experience and business. In so many of those sort of places (tv/computer repair, garages, bike shops and physicians) I so often feel patronized as in “there, there, oh stupid one. We fix – you leave”. Thanks heavens there are people who look at the world quite differently. Works for bikes and zippers.
Can’t wait to get one of those zippy bags. Mumma, xoxo
You should always support your LBS (Little Bike Shop) – they rock :) And cycling (my personal obsession) is way better with the right amount of air in your tyres too!
You have to tell me how big a zippy bag you want!
Thanks for posting that! I’ve been wanting to learn how to do that but was too shy to ever ask the usually intimidating bike peeps at other stores to show me. That’s right up the street from me, I will definitely be popping in…
Re Zippy bags: one for makeup and one for change would be just about perfect. :-) Thank you, xoxo
I noticed a fix-it-yourself place like that on Broadview yesterday and thought it was a cool concept. Now I just need to actually take my bike outside…
Haha, this post is hilarious!
(I am behind in blog readings generally these days, but I do read!!)
