Me and my employer, Therasa. I’ve worked for her for more than 5 years now and most days feel like I am the third sister she never had (and realistically would probably hate me if I were, haha!). She is kind and funny and is a great distraction from days when my real life is getting me down.

It’s pretty obvious I adore her.

I’ll post a picture of my haircut as soon as a decent picture of me is taken (this one is about 2 months old).

More about the new space http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/12/18/more-about-the-new-space/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/12/18/more-about-the-new-space/#comments Wed, 19 Dec 2012 02:12:47 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=2358 Here are a couple more pictures that I posted on Instagram but probably need a more permanent home.

My sewing area. I finally did a little Xmas sewing a couple days ago, that felt good.

This is the other window, it’s in the middle of the south facing wall, between the previous window I posted and my sewing area.

Nail art, across from the couch. I want it moved to the right another foot but that can wait.

I actually did a bunch of work on the space today, hung a ton of paintings and art, stashed what isn’t going to be displayed up in the loft, sorted out a pile of boxes, and organized storage. I also did a mountain of laundry, all folded and put away, went grocery shopping, made dinner, and swept. I spend a LOT of time sweeping here, the concrete floor is crumbling in spots and there is dust all the time. And the kitty litter is in the bathroom so that’s always a mess. It’s coming together and we are getting used to the noises and temperatures of a new home.

Tomorrow we are going to see The Hobbit.

Moving sale! http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/09/09/moving-sale/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/09/09/moving-sale/#comments Sun, 09 Sep 2012 20:12:24 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=2322 We are moving soon to a much smaller place and need to do some serious downsizing. If you have ever had your eye on any of our stuff, now is the time to speak up. Included, but not limited to, items are paintings, books, games, a boat motor, wood carving machine, tools, a Mustang, more books. I’d really like it if this could all go to homes where it is wanted, loved, and needed, rather than landfill.

Of course, I’m super reluctant to ship anything, so pick up is best. Plus then I’d hug you, win win.

Baseball, bread, buns http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/05/19/baseball-bread-buns/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/05/19/baseball-bread-buns/#comments Sat, 19 May 2012 13:55:22 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=2256 I went to the Jays game last night, they were playing the Mets and I thought that there would be a good turn out. I was wrong.

20120519-093710.jpg
Other than opening day, which was completely sold out (and I didn’t go to) this is pretty normal for the Skydome on a Friday night, at least in my experience. And I really only have myself to blame, after so many years of hating this sport. Of course now I love it, despite the fact that I have almost no understanding of the rules. Here are two issues I had last night that I had to look up and now I know:

1. RBI.
2. Designated hitter.

I understand both now, more or less, but I’m still kind of curious about the designated hitter, why don’t the Jays assign this job to someone who is a better hitter? Dude last night had 0 runs, 0 RBI.

The other thing I don’t understand that happened at a previous game is the pitcher intentionally throwing balls to walk the guy at bat. The game I saw this happen in there was already someone at first. Is the guy at bat considered good and the guy after him not so good and the pitcher is hedging his bets? I don’t remember how many outs there were at the time and that might make some difference for the answer. Sarah?

We left early because I was freezing to death with the dome wide open and because by the bottom of the seventh the score was 14-1 for the Jays and I was feeling pretty confident we would win. Final score was 14-5 which means the Mets did pull a little something out. Tough luck, Bababooey.

Earlier yesterday, I did more successful baking and here are the results. I made mini baguettes that turned out really nicely, much to my surprise. I’d made some error in the mixing part of the recipe and the dough that resulted was tough, hard as rock. I didn’t throw it out, though, just covered the bowl and went to bed, and to my great surprise it had risen by morning. Rolled it out, slashed the tops, let them rise again and baked for 16 minutes and voila. They aren’t perfect, they’re pretty dense, but they taste nice and the crust was beautiful.

I also made a no knead bread, for fun, which really does seem like magic and tastes so good, mostly because of the texture. That one is not for practical purposes but will be made for home consumption again.

My gym locker is http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/08/23/my-gym-locker-is/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/08/23/my-gym-locker-is/#comments Wed, 24 Aug 2011 02:26:21 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/08/23/my-gym-locker-is/ 20110823-102724.jpg

But for real, I like this locker because it’s in the top row and it is easy to remember which one I used.

In other news… http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/04/04/in-other-news/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/04/04/in-other-news/#comments Mon, 04 Apr 2011 20:15:49 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=1976 Spotted at VV today on a rather grubby child size bucket hat priced at $2.99:

Not that I have any interest in spending any time in the production area at that store, but it’s stuff like this that makes me wonder who is doing the pricing there. Is it someone who’s incredibly lazy and didn’t notice? Someone who is really funny? Seriously, I stared at this for a minute and considered spending the money just for the stupid pin.

OH! And while I’m probably the last person in the world to figure it out, but Bike Pirates on Bloor, near Lansdowne, is the COOLEST place to fix your bike ever, like, EVAR. I went yesterday thinking I’d happily pay someone with greasy hands to put new inter tubes in my bike wheels but they were like NO! We will show you how and walk you through it but you have to do it all yourself! And I DID! And I learned about how much air to put in my tires and why that matters! AND on Sunday it’s women and trans people only and that was nice too.

Man. Nothing cooler than learning new stuff, amirite?

GPOYW #1 http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/08/25/gpoyw-1/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/08/25/gpoyw-1/#comments Thu, 26 Aug 2010 03:28:33 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=1578 Stumbled upon on tumblr,  and because  I haven’t updated in a while, here’s what I look like right now, today:

I had a long day: worked out at the gym until I thought I broke something inside, subway to Yonge and Bloor and then I walked home. It’s about 6km if I include all the extra walking I did, roaming in shops and grocery stores and pit stopping at the library for a pee. Funny how the pillow case and the tattoos all sort of blend together.

Big day tomorrow.

Hockey Night in Toronto http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/04/05/hockey-night-in-toronto/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/04/05/hockey-night-in-toronto/#comments Mon, 05 Apr 2010 16:15:39 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/04/05/hockey-night-in-toronto/ I hadn’t seen a live Leafs game in years, not since they’d moved out of The Gardens so I was totally psyched when my boss offered me her extra ticket. So psyched that Shannon and I came home a day early from Vancouver.

We had nosebleed seats and I quickly realized that I had No Idea who plays on either team. Not one name was familiar. Who are the heroes  nowadays? Where is the Wendel Clarke? The Darryl Sittler? Rick Vaive? Dougie Gilmour?

Am I showing my age?

We still had fun. We got carded for beer-neither of us had proper id either-so that was pretty good. Getting carded when you’re 22 is annoying and embarrassing but getting carded when you’re 37 is pretty sweet. And there was a very exciting and somewhat scary fight, not on the ice, but in the stands right behind us, between disgruntled fans.

me and t

Us trying not to be scared of a fully grown man being shoved and falling ass over tea kettle down the rather steep seats.

Well. Anyway, I know I say it all the time but I totally love my job and I love my boss very much.

Work, work, work http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/03/26/work-work-work-2/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/03/26/work-work-work-2/#comments Fri, 26 Mar 2010 23:51:47 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/03/26/work-work-work-2/ That’s all I do.

Well. Not really. But because I don’t technically work many hours, I try to keep busy doing other stuff during the day so I don’t feel like an entire waste of time. Knitting, cooking, baking, sewing, all that kind of good stuff. And once the weather is a tiny bit warmer, I plan on roller skating daily.

Yesterday, I made myself a new key ring. It might sound a little weird, but I sewed a little pouch to put pot pourri in, popped a grommet on and threw it onto a key ring. Of course, I was flat out of pot pourri, so I improvised a little: I used a teabag! HA! A Bengal Spice teabag to be precise, and it smells amazing, as does my purse.

Yum.

key-keys

Hung with love beside my Olympic schwag key ring.

I also saw The Runaways tonight. Made me wish I was 16 again and full of piss and vinegar. Fuck, man. I missed out on all the cool eras, I was too young for the original punk scene, too old to rave. Too young for glam rock, too old for…emo? Twilight? Maybe it’s not such a bad thing.

Grr. http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/03/24/grr/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/03/24/grr/#comments Wed, 24 Mar 2010 22:40:03 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/03/24/grr/ Angry because my computer crashed and I hadn’t saved my blog post about our trip to Vancouver. It wasn’t big, no, but still.

Anyway, it was a good trip, I loved the hotel we stayed at just because it was new and uber swanky. So swanky there were extremely fancy cars always parked outside-like the brand new Aston Martin the first day.  So new, in fact, that they were still ironing out a bunch of kinks, one of which meant that we had a pretty messy room for a couple days because we couldn’t get the maid signal to work. And the pool hadn’t even been built yet. But still, worth what we paid.

And very close to the Olympic torch, so that was cool too. Across the road:

Olympical

You could get close enough to feel the heat from the flames.

I’d blog more but the intense fight happening next door is so very distracting. I’m glad Ari isn’t home yet to listen to the ugliness…
