I’m not able to focus on a book or video game and I can barely knit. Luckily this trip took us through some very beautiful states that I’d never been to before, namely Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Lots of trees, lots of windy roads, lots of deer, lots of roadkill, lots of weather. And these guys.

Right in the middle of a 4 lane highway, enjoying the morning’s hit and run. I like the attitude on the little fellow, he’s already tired out from eating. I hope neither of them got smushed.

I don’t know what else to say. I’m tired and I need a few sleeps to gather my thoughts and feelings.

Monday http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/06/22/monday/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/06/22/monday/#comments Sat, 23 Jun 2012 02:44:40 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=2283 On Monday morning when I went to feed the fish I knew immediately that something was terribly wrong. Only one silly face was gaping at me for breakfast. The other fish, Donna, was wedged beneath the flat rocks at the bottom of the pond. This is the third fish, in as many years, that has died in this very manner. It almost seems like their last wish is to not be a nuisance and just hide and die quietly. Poor Donna. While she was only in my care for 3 years, she was about 17, or more maybe, years old, which is pretty good for a plain old feeder fish. I spent the day in a bit of a daze, crying a little. It might sound ridiculous, but I really love those fish, I love feeding them and seeing their sweet little faces begging for food.

Then something even worse happened. By the time I got home from work Kelly had also wedged herself under the rocks. How could this be happening?? Both fish in one day? I agonized over what I’d done the day before, which was rinse the filter and top up the pond, but I do those things all the time and nothing terrible had happened. So I readied myself and asked Ari to do the dirty work. Unlike me, she isn’t squeamish about touching dead things . So she lifted the rock…and Kelly swam out. She wasn’t dead but she wasn’t ok either. It was clear that she was missing her old friend and protector. She sulked for 2 days under those rocks. She didn’t even beg for breakfast. Awful, so heart breaking. So, I got her a friend. His name is Dylan and he is a little smaller than Kelly. It’s hard to say how friendly they are, she tries to hide under him but she is too fat. He races around the pond, he is getting to know his new surroundings. I’m trying to give him space to settle in but it looks good, Kelly is out of hiding.

RIP Donna, the white warrior princess of the pond.

If that cat was thinking about going into porn, I’d suggest he change his name to Rusty Pawprints.

*Not my kitty. And anyway, Rose is too old and horrible for pornography.

Kitty witty http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/01/24/kitty-witty/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/01/24/kitty-witty/#comments Wed, 25 Jan 2012 02:08:48 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=2186 I find it strange that I have never blogged this picture before, but I went through my archives and couldn’t find it. It’s silly old Rose. She sits on my yarn bins while I’m sewing and fills me in on all her news. You know, she drives us bananas with all her meowing but I am still very fond of her.

20120124-210543.jpg
That is her. Although if her mouth was open she would be more recognizable.

Here is a picture that made me laugh for a long time and forced me to attempt the same pose. You should do the same.

So awesome, right? Prada, you’re killing me.

A study in low contrast http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/11/01/a-study-in-low-contrast/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/11/01/a-study-in-low-contrast/#comments Tue, 01 Nov 2011 18:08:06 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/11/01/a-study-in-low-contrast/ Dear Rose, please forgive me for ever saying that you are a useless grey rag. It’s just not true: you happen to be quite a useful grey rag and I am enormously proud of you. For the third time in your, what, 15? 16 is it now? years, you caught and killed a mouse. And you neatly laid it in front of the door I use most often, what a good girl you are!

Now if only you could figure out how to make me coffee. Or toast, that’s easy.

Jason Seagull http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/07/05/jason-seagull/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/07/05/jason-seagull/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2011 00:20:47 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/07/05/jason-seagull/ Ok, so it really is summer in the city. It is hot and sunny and hot and I don’t like it one bit. None of it! Ok, I like the fruits and vegetables that are at the markets, but that is it. And I like the baby animals. I also like outdoor swimming, that’s nice. The smell of sunscreen, drinking lemonade, wearing flip flops and drinking Slurpees. But that is IT.

Oh, and while I don’t like seagulls ever, I did appreciate this one preening itself at the top of a lamp post.

Dog days of summer http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/07/02/dog-days-of-summer/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/07/02/dog-days-of-summer/#comments Sat, 02 Jul 2011 22:41:04 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/07/02/dog-days-of-summer/ Not that summer has really arrived in Toronto, not yet it seems. Not that I’m complaining, ha ha, no indeed, the milder weather suits me and my non-air conditioned home just fine, thanks. This is my neighbor’s dog, FiFi. She is tiny and silly and likes nothing better than a cuddle in the hammock. Although I think he is lacking the required male anatomy, her ideal mate would certainly be Puppers.

20110702-062821.jpg

Not a great pic of me, but it was the only one where her eyes were open. Out of 8. She was wide awake.

I’m hoping to get some decent sleep tonight. On top of my usual stresses in life, I lost my skull ring on Monday afternoon. I noticed it missing when we got home from High Park, ugh, and we drove back to do some searching and turned up nada. Tears, many tears were shed. Teeth gnashed. More tears. I turned our rather messy home upside down looking in all the obvious spots, then the less obvious spots and then the ridiculous spots. Nada. Looked everywhere another dozen times. I made posters for the park (honestly, I had no idea where I lost it) and a craigslist ad and told my neighbors and posted on Facebook and twitter.

Agony. My heart was in serious amounts of pain. And then my dad had his hip replacement surgery that did not go as well as planned and when I talked to my mom to find out how he was doing, I burst into tears in the grocery store.

No sleep+stupid amount of stress=crying in public. Vodka helped. Vodka is very helpful in small amounts. Ditto mind numbing video games.

Fast forward to today, 5 days from the day I lost it and guess what? Ari found it on the floor of the truck, in the back seat! I don’t often hug and kiss her, but today was certainly exceptional and I did plant a few on her rosy cheek. As a reward I gave her the pink knitted squid that she has been begging for since I made it. And Shannon got her a new game for her ds.

And my dad is recovering nicely, he is out of bed and enjoying the women’s world cup soccer.

Sleep? Come back please. You are missed!

And I gots my strut on.

This handsome fellow was outside the Skydome Roger’s Centre when I went to the Jays game last Friday against Detroit. Hard for me, what with my serious love of all things Detroit, but I’m a Toronto girl at heart. Birdy was hoping for hotdog bun and birdy was not disappoint.

Slackeration http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/04/30/slackeration/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/04/30/slackeration/#comments Sun, 01 May 2011 03:15:03 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=1994 Sorry.  I realize I haven’t been updating regularly. It’s not for lack of action around here, not at all. If anything, I have so much going on that I’m living my own real life as opposed to a e-life on the webs. So. Also I hate hate hate this laptop and wordpress doesn’t have a reliable app yet, so until that happens, there will be spaces between blog entries.

We don’t have rats inside our space (YET!) but they have been lumping around the compost bins and gardens a bunch. Big holes and I saw a MONSTER rat-a live one-last week that at first I thought was a wet squirrel. Yes, that big.

And this guy (not the monster)  met a not so pleasant end.

I’m going to post date a few more blog entries.

Bords http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/12/26/bords/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2010/12/26/bords/#comments Sun, 26 Dec 2010 22:35:49 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=1806 My mother has a couple Irish fellows staying with her (well, they’re off to Havana tomorrow for a week) who are SO NICE and we just love them to death. Anyway, my mom has a couple bird feeders on her back deck that were just flooded with wildlife. Tons of goldfinches, house finches, morning doves, sparrows, juncos, chickadees, squirrels, blue jays and cardinals. Sitting and watching them battle at the feeders was so awesome, better than so called ‘festive’ tv programming.

The Irishmen found the cardinals to be so exotic.

I do too. Lovely.
