It has been 7 years since my last visit and 20 years for my sister. We really wanted to get to know everyone again and a lot of time was spent sitting in living rooms, laughing our heads off.

Of course we did do some touristy stuff, how could we not? On the Monday, my dad, sister, and I went to Canterbury for a little shopping (Marks and Spencer’s, we wish you were still in Canada!), and toured the Cathedral. It’s seemingly under constant repair but it was still very beautiful, even to an avowed atheist. While we couldn’t find the tomb of our presumed ancestor, we did find his name on the Archbishop registry.

1139, a long time ago.

Megan, my sister, and I also went up the cliffs of Dover briefly. I took this picture in St.Margaret’s Bay, where my Auntie Ann lives.

20120804-101721.jpg

The cliffs are enormously high and have no fencing at all around them. I was literally standing less than a foot away from the edge, then I was overcome with a feeling of dread and retreated. The day we were there was so clear, we could see France very clearly.

We also paid a visit to Sandwich, a town that oozes quaintness. It’s pretty much the cutest town ever, with it’s narrow streets, river full of boats and beautiful architecture. I loved this building for it’s fantastic carvings.

20120804-102204.jpg

And this adorable car was there. No idea what it is, if anyone can help. It’s perfect.

20120804-102327.jpg

Of course we visited Dover Castle. Megan and I split off from the old ‘uns and did a lot of stair climbing. I love the castle, it’s very…old. I also love the tour of the underground tunnels. This is a Roman lighthouse. It’s old.

Very old.

Part 3 will be family stories.

England trip, part 1: treasures! http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/08/01/england-trip-part-1-treasures/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2012/08/01/england-trip-part-1-treasures/#comments Wed, 01 Aug 2012 21:06:07 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=2301 I got back from a 10 day trip to England on Monday and I am starting to feel like myself again. It wasn’t really 10 days, I was gone that long but with the time change and some serious jet lag in both directions, it was really more like 7 days.

Anyway, I did lots of stuff, I will post pictures of that another time. This entry is for the awesome things I bought while there!

Seriously, yes, I did bring home toilet paper, haha. Call me crazy, but you can not buy this here in Canada. How sad! As you can see, one pack is floral and somewhat old lady-ish and the other has silver stars and makes me feel like partying. I don’t know when I will get around to opening and using these, maybe never. I also always bring home GB Smarties-they are highly superior-and Polo Mints. And there were 2 Flakies but one seems to have disappeared. Other candy, not pictured, that I brought back were marshmallow shrimps and pig snouts and gummy pig tails.

20120801-170330.jpg
I also brought a pile of gifts for Ari that included pajamas, magazines and crystals that grow in vinegar.

My uncle, who is 84 this year and is still working on a farm, gave me this rock which is a bit of a mystery to all of us. He says that when plowing fields (in southern Kent) he occasionally comes across a round rock and will put it in his pocket. His collection was small, maybe about 40 all together, and were varying sizes and colours. A couple were broken in half and appeared to have a thin outer layer covering a white stone (maybe chalk?) and hollow right in the middle. The one he gave me, pictured here, is dark green but it was the only one like that, most were sort of brown. Kent is covered in flint, but they are not that. If anyone has any insight, like maybe they are fossilized poo? Feel free to tell me.

If that cat was thinking about going into porn, I’d suggest he change his name to Rusty Pawprints.

*Not my kitty. And anyway, Rose is too old and horrible for pornography.

Dude! http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/10/04/dude/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/10/04/dude/#comments Wed, 05 Oct 2011 00:30:38 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/10/04/dude/ I saw this card last time I was at Magic Pony but I was so distracted by miniature sushi and Southpark zipper pulls I forgot to buy it. Lucky for me it was still in stock when I returned this afternoon. Can’t say that for the sushi.

20111004-202220.jpg

Has anything sillier ever existed? I can’t take it out of the plastic wrapper until I have a frame for it so I won’t get damaged by spit takes. Seriously, it’s pretty much the funniest card ever.

Well. See, I said card, not picture. Nope. As of right now this is the funniest picture:

Gross, huh? None on my hair, though. That’s the good news.

I so very wish I had art that I made when I was a kid. Ari actually handed this over the second she saw me after school the other day, she knew how much I’d like it. And it’s true, I DO like it, it’s hilarious!

Peanuts, ducks and rock and roll http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/01/24/peanuts-ducks-and-rock-and-roll/ http://www.caitlinjane.com/2011/01/24/peanuts-ducks-and-rock-and-roll/#comments Tue, 25 Jan 2011 02:46:56 +0000 Caitlin Jane http://www.caitlinjane.com/?p=1860 So after months of bugging Shannon, I have finally gained control of thispeanutlookslikeaduck. I feel somewhat bad, it hadn’t been updated since October of 2009, haha, so there is considerable catching up to do. Not to mention the foolish assertion that we’d mail out stickers, gosh, forget about it. It triples the work and considering how old the emails are, lots of people would have moved by now.

Not to mention the expense.

So I’ve posted 10 new ducks. That’s about all I can manage in one evening, even if it is pleasurable work, full of me laughing at various pictures of things that look like ducks. And things that don’t. And spam galore. Please remember that I am no Shannon Larratt-I don’t possess his writing or photo editing skills. Nor his dry and silly sense of humour. But I do my best.

Also funny, this tweet from Nikki Sixx the other day made me laugh:

Shannon has dealt with this problem a lot in his lifetime, it’s the curse of having a gender neutral name. This tweet is funny on more than one level, insult and injury, poor old Mr. Sixx. I’m reading his book right now, The Heroin Diaries. Should be called The Harrowing Diaries, it’s so brutal. I find I can only read a couple pages at a time, it’s so excruciating. His survival is pretty amazing!

ps I’m Oprah’s half sister!
