Seeing these chickens at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair on Saturday made me very sad. I’m pretty much immune to the gelatinous blobs that go to the fair, the rude and obnoxious people that ride transit and other every day crap, but this really bummed me out. Like being a chicken at a traveling petting zoo doesn’t suck enough.
The pink one was especially sad, missing lots of feathers on her neck. They seemed dazed.
I read that they are dyed in utero, while still in the shell, I guess that’s less inhumane than painting them with Manic Panic after.

Awful. But it was even worse when there used to be lots of businesses selling these MAILORDER for kids to open on Easter… Strangely the 50% DOA rate didn’t slow down sales.
Oh wow, I thought they were just toys, not living animals. This is terrible, why do people think that everything possible is allowed?
Yes, just because we can doesn’t mean we ought!
Easter chicks and ducks piss me off so hard.
So… it’s OK to kill BABY animals by neglect and improper care… This is the appropriate Easter message?
That said I fully plan on getting the kids easter ducks and I’m sure one year rabbits, but we will be eating all of them after they have been brooded and raised properly.
Those little ducks were so cute, if I had room for them I’d have ducks. And chickens. And a dog, one sloth, a couple guinea pigs, some highland cattle, a pig or two and a unicorn.
Of course this is coming from the person who, only yesterday, announced at the fabric store that she’d be willing to trade all pets for a fat quarter of minky fabric and snuggle that all night.
