Renovations

By in dollhouse

I’ve been inspired to get back to work on my dollhouse(s). I like how it’s coming along, I got some really cool paper at an art supply store and that’s certainly helped things move along.

The bedroom is not finished but it’s more finished than any other room:

The wallpaper is Japanese, the curtains are nautical and the floor is construction paper that will most likely be replaced. Beds, babies, babysitter, blankets. The rugs are just fabric scraps with the edge threads pulled out to create a fringe. The bathmat I crocheted and the wallpaper in there is  so cute, love it. All the baseboards are made from snipped up zip ties. The ceramic fish are from Red Rose tea.

The photo on the wall I cut out of the envelope that Ari’s school pictures came in. She thought it was weird (“Why is SHE on MY pictures?!?!”) so I made it into art.

The artist’s studio is coming along too:

I’m leaving the walls as is and I like light blue for the floor. I need to figure out paint and shelves. Shouldn’t be too hard, I have plenty of spools of thread that can be used.

The upper floors are pretty bare still:

The kitchen has awesome flooring, it’s crocodile skin textured paper that I love-I’m getting more in white to do the outside of the house tomorrow. I’m also going to get green paper for the walls.  I want to turn that window into a door but…I don’t know how.

Living room:

Just the floor is done. The tiles in the back are not there any more and I’ve made a sectional couch that’s covered in dark green velvet.  The walls will have a textured, grassy paper covering in a light, neutral colour.  I’ll make more rugs for that room.

More work tomorrow!

I love LOVE your dollhouse! You have inspired me! As soon as I regain some brain power (i.e. sleep) I think this would be a fantastic project for Ella and I to do together!

And I found a zombiewalk here! It happened the weekend Freddie was born, so we missed it. But next year we can be a zombie family hooray!

Darn that kid already trumping your zombie walks! I’d like you to post more pics please.

A duet dollhouse-like Shannon and Ari are doing-is fun too, but possibly more stressful and argument causing. There seems to be lots of debate over who’s done more work and what colour rooms are to be painted and whether or not toys are allowed inside yet. I think, especially with a toddler (uh, because they aren’t known for their rationality OR ability to sit and focus for more than 30 seconds) I’d let her carry the reins and direct everything, and then do whatever I want while she’s asleep. And then explain it in a way that makes her feel like it was all her own doing. I’d also say that making things that you don’t mind if they get wrecked is also a good thing. Don’t sew a beautiful little quilt because she will cut it in half at some point and you’ll cry.

I LOVE your dollhouse! I wish I still had the one my uncle had made for me when I was younger so I could give it to you.

Yes, first he steals my zombiewalk time, and then he steals all my LHP time. I am in withdrawal! But darn if he isn’t the cutest thing to puke on me today, so I will let him steal my time/sleep/nutrients for now.

Your dollhouse advice is seriously good stuff. You sound as though you have done it with a toddler before.
I think I would get materials, show her the ‘how-to’s and then let her use her excellent toddler-y decorative tastes to create a masterpiece. Since we moved into our new apartment she has decorated one of our window sills with beautiful swirly circles, big and small, in a lovely shade of royal blue sharpie. She has a natural flair for design, I’d say.

I have pictures to put up, just haven’t gotten to it. but if good intentions were pieces of gold, I would be one rich pirate. Coming soon…
