Just when you (and I) thought I had given up on quilting completely, I went ahead and finished one quilt, made another and started a third. Go figure.
The first one was for Saira and Michael’s baby, Kiran. Yes, I’d made her a sweater too and given the quilt over at the baby shower, but I hadn’t actually finished it completely, so I took it back home and it sat for a while. Spurred by my last visit there, I got up off my duff and bound the shit out of it. It’s done and it’s awful cute.

The back:
Now don’t be asking me what the different fabrics are: I don’t know. I’m not fussy/obsessive about that sort of thing, ok? The pictures don’t really do it justice anyway, it’s way bright, the binding is mustard yellow bandanna print fabric. I used variegated thread on the top to quilt it and red on the back. I don’t have a walking foot so it’s a little lumpy.
The quilt I made and finished and shipped off to Meeps, I forgot to take pictures of. Maybe if I asked Ashley nicely she’d post one.
And finally, I don’t know who this is for, I was inspired by various flickr groups and realized that a zig-zag quilt would be super easy, so I crunched some numbers (and flopped all my fabric stash around a lot) and came up with this:
The orange, black and white with orange/pink/black are all from Ikea, while the tiny floral pink fabric is from India, I got it from a vendor at a trunk show at the workroom. I’m planning on using light pink to make a border (or sashing, right?) and then more of the same orange to bind. Light pink again for the back, or maybe dark pink. We’ll see!

The photos don’t do it justice, it looks much much nicer in person, it turned out really well.
amazing!! The binding looks great. Quilts are totally hard to take pictures of, but it still looks awesome.! amazing job on figuring out zigzaginess. I don’t have the patience for fabric math, so i usually stick to patterns.. :)
Thanks, Buddy.
And thanks to you, Andrea. It’s not turning out so perfectly, but I’m trying. I figure that I’ll have a date with the rotary cutter to smooth things out.
I got some orange bandanna fabric for the back, light pink kona for the sashing and I think I’ll use black for the binding…maybe.
They look lovely!
How do you get all these done? You have so many beautiful projects on the go and you get them done (seemingly) so quickly and they look amazing!
You must have a lot more discipline than I do (not to mention great talent with a needle!)
I think Quilts make the best baby present. We git two handmade quilts when Ella was born and it really made me feel that someone had done something thoughtful and special that Ella could keep forever. Your friends must be so happy too!
ps.. my favourite squares are the orange-ish squares with the larger polkadots… i can’t stop looking at them.
Laura, the honest truth is that I don’t really get that much done. I spend more time agonizing over unfinished projects (and piles of stashed yarn, fabric, assorted stuff) than I actually spend working on anything. I’m just good at posting when I DO finish something so that I appear to be more productive.
Cheating really. And remember that not only do I not work full time, I also do not have an infant or a toddler (or a dog) demanding my time.
Do you know the gender of your almost-here-baby?
Andrea, it’s so funny, that fabric was super cheap at ikea, like maybe $1.99/m and they cut enormous metres, I think I asked for 2 and got 3. The other one I got at the same time is similar, white fabric with black and green, birds though. I see both of them over and over again on various quilting blogs!
Are you still watching BB at all?! It is finally getting interesting after all this time. Victor is in there pushing everyone’s buttons and going to the diary room to explain how he is going to pick people off by pitting them against each other. And in all their egos and narcissism they are eating out of his hands! It’s nice to see someone actually treating it like a game.
We are having a boy this time ’round. And I am sad that I have had to pack all my hoards of material etc and my machine.
I have finally decided to give up pretending I will become a knitter. I was packing today and all my knitting needles, yarn etc came out of a box that hadn’t been opened since we moved in here a year ago. So, it’s going up on freecycle. hopefully, someone will be glad to have it all.
Why is it that we all start many projects and agonize over their unfinishedness? Even if you only finished one quilt per year…that is a lot more than many people produce in a lifetime. I know I always feel like I haven’t done enough, and what I have done is not good enough quality. Why? (shakes fist at sky)
Ok, about BB: I swore I’d stop watching after Jo-C left but I kept watching because I’m sucked into it. This despite the fact that I have no idea who any of the housemates are nor do I care to. They all seem very awful and all behave like I SHOULD know them. You’re right, egos are on serious overtime. I don’t care who wins this time ’round because I don’t like any of them, especially Nadia and especially that blond idiot, not Eureka or Chelsea (or whatever, the girl who’s ex is there too) (and I HATE THEM TOO!) but the third stupid blond. Is she really famous in England? WTF for?
Boy babies are super fun and he will bring more excitement and joy into your world than you will ever know!
