I bought a new coffee pot and mug a couple weeks ago at Starbucks. The coffee pot is a Bodum-my old one was falling apart and Starbucks has ‘green’ versions. Literally, green. The mug too, it was recycled glass and looked great. Until yesterday, that is, when I poured in water to make tea and the glass cracked.
I had visions of arguing with the baristas about it, I’d lost my receipt and couldn’t prove that I hadn’t just taken the mug off the stack near the door…but they were very nice, the manager telling me to pick ‘any’ mug and didn’t make me pay the difference, about $4!
That makes me happy.
This is my new mug, hopefully it lasts more than a few weeks:
Yes, it’s a biggun. Ignore the world’s grottiest manicure.

In the US, tomorrow you bring a reusable/travel mug to Starbucks and they’ll fill it for free. I hope they do in Canada, too!
I love that mug.
i’ve had really good experiences with starbucks. my girlfriend once picked out a bodom press, but the barista couldn’t find the price for it. it turned out they weren’t selling it anymore. the manager gave my girlfriend his number while he saw what he could do, and a couple days later he called us in to pick it up, for free.
Thanks for the reminder, Rebekah, I am pretty sure it’s universal. The Starbucks in my ‘hood isn’t exactly next door, so it’s a good reason for a bike ride.
Tim-that’s great! Not that the Bodum I got was expensive, I think it was under $25 (which is a great price) but free? Especially when I bet she thought she’d never hear from them again. Very nice!
when I worked at Starbucks, we were told to exchange everything, with or without a reciept. We would get people exchanging filthy, old broken stuff for brand new shiny stuff all the time. Not a big money maker, but it keeps people buying $5 coffees!!
I hate that i love starbucks, but i can’t help it, and i do love it. I always love their mug selection, right now they have some cute nesting tea cups that i want. :) Happy mug days ahead for you!
In the UK they are doing the free coffee thing today, but on the news this morning they specified that you must bring a carafe (thermos) instead of a travel mug. which i thought was a bit weird.
also, i have become a bit of an etsy fabric junkie since your suggestion that I look there. I now start everyday by perusing etsy fabric deals.
Megan: I wonder if people have caught on to that deal here or if it’s only in Vancouver. People seem much more shameless there, it’s a pretty funny city when I think about it. Last night I was telling Shannon about people selling cheese or books or jerky out of gym bags at bars. You never see that here. Ever.
Andrea: for real, the mug selection there is great. I am not a huge fan of their drinks (or treats) but I had a hot apple cider with whipped cream and caramel and that rocked. Plus I like the mesh that their teabags are made of. Random enough? Haha!
Laura: I was just saying to Shannon that we should bring the huge thermos to Starbucks to fill it up!
Oh, and Laura, here’s a great way to find fabric by colour:

It’s definatly not just in Vancouver, I am sure if you worked at Starbucks, or hung out there alot, you would see it in Toronto all the time! You are right about Van being a wierd place, that’s why I love it!!
Starbucks is the NEW BLACK.
It’s crowd control kiddo.
What the hell. Me too!
