Winter, it seems, is finally here which means I’ve worn my new winter coat all of 3 times. It’s stunning, not just in appearance but in it’s warmth, a knee length down-filled coat is very cozy. Oh, so warm. I wore it to the grocery store this morning and actually had to take it off while shopping because I was so sweaty, my arms were wet! I absolutely love this coat, it’s wonderful, and has 3 inside pockets! And a hood that comes off! And when I wear it on the subway, it feels like I am sitting on the comfiest pillow ever. And it looks super with my gorgeous boots.
Harder than you’d think to take a picture of a long coat. Just imagine it’s down to my knees.
It’s funny, as I type a blog entry about my lovely new winter coat that my darling buddy bought me, he’s dozing on the couch right beside me while wearing his own winter coat. His ancient winter coat that I swear he’s been wearing since 1998. He’s tired because the tarp kept him up all night: the one on the skylights in the interior space where we sleep, it’s windy outside so the tarp flap flap flaps and it’s pretty noisy but doesn’t bother me much. He kept thinking someone was coming into our place to murder us. I took a picture of him because I think he looks adorable but I won’t post it without his consent.
I’m also working on my second attempt at chocolate truffles. I actually weighed the chocolate this time, so hopefully I got it right. And for dinner we’re having scalloped potatoes, chicken and broccoli. Gosh, how domestic am I anyway?
(Oh, and ps, I got my second email from Richard Christy. He’s my favourite!)

I got a similar coat this year for such a steal – regularly $160 U.S. and on sale for $50. (I never manage to catch great sales like that so I’m still bragging about it.) Every time it’s been cold enough to wear it I’ve been excited to walk around in my big happy coat.
Damn, Rach, that is a great deal, good on ya! Mine was not on sale, but it’s from Canadian Tire which means it’s very practical and will last (hopefully) for a long time.
man i love richard christy.
Love that coat. I’m a coat girl and THAT’s a serious and scrumptious coat.
Having chicken, rice w/broccoli and beans here but the kids made it because after the umpteenth time of my cleaning the kitchen that I had dirtied I said “no more”. Tonight at least they get to dirty the kitchen.
It’s a good thing.
Richard’s the best, eh? You know, I wrote him because I’d really enjoyed the week of Best of ’09, there’d been a lot of him and Sal, but they hadn’t been on the show as much lately because of Howard being grouchy with them. I hear his voice and I start laughing. And tell me that butt bongo on BoBo wasn’t hilarious.
Thanks, Elizabeth. The scalloped potatoes were met with a resounding “meh” but I liked them, but probably because I knew how much effort I put into them. Ditto the truffles, I LOVE them. Good.
The general rule of thumb, my entire life, has been whoever cooks dinner doesn’t do the dishes. It’s a fair trade, I think, but it only happens about 10% of the time (here, that is).
yeah i really feel like he adds a lot to the show, and it sucks he’s not on as much anymore.
i missed almost all of the butt bongo, i think i only heard part of a song. i really liked when he richard christy’d everybody.
he’s in my top three people from the show, easy.
And a fabulous coat it is indeed.
Reminds me of mine, only you went with the darker colour.
Stay warm Caitlin!
I want that coat.
Ali, you have a nice coat from Roots.
I’d have gone with a different colour, probably, but there was only black. Part of me hates black, it’s really a bad colour for winter because it’s harder to see in a snowstorm, but maybe I will just add some reflective strips? Or will that look totally crazed?
Richard Christy is definitely my favourite person on the Howard Stern Show. I also like JD, Sal, George Takei and Howard. I also really like John Hein and Bababooey on the wrap up show. And there isn’t one wackpack member I don’t adore.
I wear black overly much. But snowstorms are simply never an issue.
10%?! Egads. I.dont.think.so! My inner feminist (humanist!) is now set on ranty rant.
a lot of the time i have trouble with howard because it aggravates me how blind he can be to things. he decides he feels a certain way about things and just can’t see any other position on it.
i also love george takei, sal and JD, but i also like benjy a lot.
the wrap up show is almost better than the normal show for me, i really like all the behind the scenes stuff.
Yes, agreed on Howard. I also hate that he can take one tiny thing (like the Gary stuff this week, how to deal with mail) and can repeat and repeat and drag it out until I am ready to change the channel (but don’t).
I don’t know about Benjy. He’s a great writer, very funny. He fills a space in the room the way he’s supposed to and that’s good, I couldn’t do his role, I hate being abused by people like he is. But the stuff he does, being late, all that silliness, I’d hate that. It’s funny, I think about these people like I actually know them in real life. Ha.
And it’s great talking to you about this, maybe I ought to join SFN? It all seems too negative to me. I think I drive Shannon and anyone else that will listen to me crazy talking about Howard Stern et al.
the perfect coat brings so much happiness!! and for me a sense of a job well done :-P
Great coat, and your hair is gorgeous.
A girlfriend of mine used to do truffles for a side business, if you ever need tips or anything I can give you her email.
Thanks, Ashley. I’m on the verge of having a trim, talk about stress. Luckily I’ve reverted to ‘pooing, so I won’t have to explain too much.
I’m trying a batch of white chocolate truffles tonight, gonna roll them in icing sugar, I guess. Or sprinkles. Tips on truffling would be splendid, thanks!
Oh, wow, Deka!
I am subscribed to your blog, yay!
the gary stuff this week was annoying, but not quite enough to change it, or not listen to it on the replay on the way home.
yeah benjy has his problems with being late and stuff but most of all i like him on the wrap up show and his one liners.
i always feel like i know everybody from the show, but i guess that’s the kind of show they have. they’re honest and open about most things and you really can get to know them, sort of. not something you could ever say about leno or regis.
i’ve stayed away from SFN. not only is it negative but i find it sort of overwhelming, there’s so much going on there i wouldn’t know where to start.
