Serious addiction

By in Art!, making stuff is good

Since I started my first sock scarf, I have fallen in serious love with this yarn. The colours are great and the price (around $15 CAD with tax) ain’t too shabby. Scarf number two made for some serious fiddling last night, trying to decide on a pattern, and I ended up going with what I already know: ripples work well. This one only has 2 wider ripples and somehow the yarn is striping the way it’s meant to. Like everything I make, I want to keep these for myself (out of worry that they just won’t be appreciated properly as gifts), but I may end up selling them. Although, with the time I put into them, they’d cost around $100 each, which is crazy for a scarf…

The first one isn’t finished yet, it’s just in my work-in-progress bag. So, that might mean it never gets done.

I love the self striping yarn, I use it all the time to make socks, have also used it to make baby bootes and a baby cardigan which turned out seriously cute.

I would love to get around to making a ripple afghan at some point.

I want a whole ripple self striping sock yarn sweater. Maybe one of those abstract cardigans, with skinny sleeves and a floppy front…

For the record, this is not advertising, though I do know the girl who runs the site! ysolda.com is all about knitting and she has some free patterns (including some awesome soft toys). You should have a look for new things to make. x

    sorry, that’s ysolda.com/wordpress

Thanks, Bambam, she does lovely work. I wish I knitted, but I gave that up years ago due to extreme impatience and an unwillingness to learn hard things.

I’m also doing a scarf again, it sure is addictive! Take a look if you want: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c137/Freundin77/scarf.jpg

I find that in a pattern without “holes”, crocheted things can easily get too stiff…

  7. Caitlin Jane says:

You’re so totally right, Mona, it’s true about crocheting, you use up SO much yarn and wind up with a stiff thing that’s unwearable. That’s why I like this super skinny yarn, it would be impossible to make stiff, at least, with the hook I am using.

Your scarf is really pretty! I bought a great book today, it’s got hundreds of different crochet stitches in it, so now I am going to buy another ball of Supersocke 100 and start another scarf, probably with a more challenging pattern, maybe shells or scallops or something lacy…
