I really don’t want to turn this blog into a place for me to do all my complaining, but for the past 24 hours the water in our apartment has been undrinkable. It started last night when I went to get a drink of water and it was smelly and tasted terrible, dirty, rusty, nasty. I complained to Shannon about it, then about an hour later I ran the water again, and this is what came out:
The last picture is of the dregs at the bottom of the glasses after sitting on the counter all night. It’s rust. The water is running clear now but it still stinks and tastes sulfur-y. I called the complaint number for the apartment but it was a Sunday after hours and I had to leave a message.
And I don’t think I will hear back from them.
Mmm how delightfully tasty looking.
Your apartment manager would be wise to look into this, funny coloured water can be a sign of a failing plumbing system.
Hah, you totally have the same stove as me… have any of your knobs fallen off yet? :p
If the city was doing any type of work in the area (flushing hydrants, street cleaning etc.) your water will be rusty for a day or so until the pipes clear out. In smaller cities, they send out notices so people don’t freak and call to complain (not that you shouldn’t).
Yeah, we didn’t get any notices. Sometimes they post stuff in the elevators about happenings, but not the water, which, in my mind, is kind of important. I mean, I like having water I can drink, and I hate buying what I get for free.
As someone living in a house with well water; very rusty, sulphury well water that we have to use filters to fix, I feel your pain.
I would still call the water department and the health department just to be on the safe side. All it takes is a broken water line next to a sewer line to really mess up your day.
An old friend of mine told me many years ago to get the water tested anytime it seemed strange. He had worked in the DPW and said that he had seen some crazy things that were only caught when someone made a complaint and got the water tested.
Water should NEVER smell bad unless there is something seriously wrong.
